RITUAL:

Lovers Lane. Hadleigh. Suffolk UK 2019

In August 2019 I was an artist in residency at the Hadleigh Library, Suffolk, through BLOC arts , where I discovered the folk graffiti (Folk Graff) of monograms, dedications and coupling, carved into a remote wall, on the outskirts of the town. Holbecks Lane, or as local lore has it, Lovers Lane. There was evidence that these acts of devotion scratched as far back as the early 19th century. I decided to add my own mark, by scratching a runecharm, dedicated to my partner and I, Wyldheart & Wright. The ritual involved cleansing with pine resin smoke with a crow’s wing, and blessed with ceremonial mead.

The act is presented below, with music by Ancestral Voices: Rites, from the album Divination on Horo
