Mr Punch is a contemporary art project by Wyldheart & Wright exploring the notion of ‘rewilding’ through the surrealist doll photography of their handmade folklore creations. Inspired by nightmarish 1970’s kids television shows, iconic animator Jan Svankmajer’s films, and the haunting illustrations of Eric Winter and Robert Lumley for the 1960’s Ladybird books Well-Loved Tales series to build a world populated by mythological characters. The emerging toy art aesthetic evokes a sense of phantasmagoria, encouraging childlike wonder and an encounter with the uncanny using a backdrop of the seasonal landscape of Suffolk.
